Are the beaches open?

You may have seen an article going around that the Florida Beaches are open. This is a partial truth. On Friday Governor DeSantis gave the green light for Florida to begin reopening beaches if it “can be done safely”. Jacksonville, Florida is one of the first areas to resume activity on the beach. As of friday afternoon, Mayor Lenny Curry said Duval County beaches were reopening with restricted hours, and they can only be used for walking, biking, hiking, fishing, running, swimming, taking care of pets and surfing. The beaches will be open from 6 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. This is specific to Duval County and does not apply to Okaloosa County (Destin and Fort Walton Beach Area) or Walton County (Miramar Beach area).

The Okaloosa County commissioners are currently taking weekly votes on when they will be re-opening the beaches in Okaloosa County. Currently, the beaches in Destin remained CLOSED and have been voted to remain closed. With the green light given from Governor DeSantis today, the county’s stance may soon be subject to change.

We expect a plan on when the Okaloosa County and Walton County beaches will begin to roll out their reopening soon.
