Airbnb is issuing a new cleaning protocol which will directly affect the way those listed on Airbnb can rent their properties. This new cleaning protocol comes as a response to the coronavirus. Under this new protocol, Airbnb will be requiring a minimum of 24 hours between rentals. Along with the 24 hour window between rentals, Airbnb is issuing a cleaning manual over 40 pages long.
How does this impact vacation rental owners and managers on the Gulf Coast? The new Airbnb cleaning rule will directly impact Saturday to Saturday rentals. If you are renting a property through Airbnb, you will be forced to remove one day a week on your schedule. If a guest rents Saturday the 1st and checks out Saturday the 8th, your next guest will not be allowed to check in until Sunday the 9th, forcing you to forfeit rental income on the night of the 8th.
For owners and managers that rent frequently through Airbnb, this may impact their rental income quite a bit. This new change falls inline with other control grabs Airbnb has issued recently. More and more owners and managers are fleeing the platform in order to maintain control of their rental business.
